Mobile Cinema System

Officers from the State Department of Pubic Works participated in the International Youth Day celebrations held at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kakamega. The event was led by His Excellency Dr. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in Chief of Kenya Defence Forces and attended by government officers, dignitaries and members of the public. Public Works officers were invited by Kenya Film Classification Board.

In a significant milestone for KFCB and Film industry at large, the Head of State officially launched Kenya’s first Mobile Cinema System, a project designed and supervised by SDPW in collaboration with Mechanical and Transport Division, State Department for Roads. The Mobile Cinema Project aims to help KFCB fulfill its mandate of regulating the film sector and empowering the local film industry.

The state-of-the-art mobile cinema system features Rigid Truck complete with a platform deck and a Mobile Cinema container equipped with the 63 sq. meter LED Cinema Screen, hoist mechanism for the mobile cinema screen (mast), video controller, integrated sound system (active subwoofer and loud speakers, 80 kVA diesel generator, rack for audio visual, digital mixer, independent support equipment (DJ kit and Laptop), and microphones. The system is the first ever LED Cinema based Solution Africa.

The State Department was involved in the design and development of technical specifications. As part of quality control, SDPW officers also travelled to Poland to carryout a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) alongside KFCB officers. The technical supervision of the project was carried out alongside engineers from Mechanical and Transport Division, State Department for Roads.
