Mazingira Day 2025
The Principal Secretary for State Department for Public Works Mr Joel Arumonyang led a team of officers in the tree planting exercise in Kapsangar Primary School in West Pokot County. This was in line with the Government directive that all PSs and CSs champion tree planting exercise in their former primary schools during the Mazingira Day on 10th October 2025.
Among the delegates was Secretary Administration Mr Nalyanya Wanyonyi, NCA & CEO Executive Director Eng Maurice Aketch, Sub County Education Director Mrs Mary, representative of West pokot County Government, leaders of national government agencies present in West Pokot region and staff of both county and national Government.
More than 3,500 seedlings were planted in Kapsangar Primary and Kapsangar Mixed Secondary school, and 4,000 seedlings distributed among neighbouring schools of Plalang, Kamonges, Chepugon, Murkusian, Kaghmuu, Parayon, Techan and Psukuno Primary Schools.
The event presented an opportunity for dialogue where the community expressed their needs for employment of more school teachers and youth in the National Police Service (NCS) more infrastructure for the two schools especially a library and a computer lab.
The PS and leaders of Agencies had the opportunity to communicate government policies such as registration of persons, programmes in place to reduce early child pregnancies in schools, mother-child HIV transmission which is highly prevalent in the region.
In a light moment, the PS gave the officers present an opportunity to share their academic and professional journeys and experiences in a bid to encourage and motivate the learners.
Former alumni of Kapsangar Primary school too had the chance to motivate the learners and especially those who are set to sit for their final exams from October 2025.
Further the PS expounded on the BETA programs calling on the community to register for SHA, Affordable Housing, to take advantage of the upcoming teachers and police recruitment by applying when positions are advertised.
The PS donated gifts and presented them to the schools in the form of books and other tokens.
